CRIME NEWS

  • A Madison County man, identified as Ryan Worrix (24), was arrested on Thursday and accused of first-degree rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse after allegedly drugging and raping a woman on Jan. 30, and he awaits trial (bond set at $100,000) at the Madison County Detention Center.  FOX 56
  • Today the Kentucky Supreme Court overturned Troy Dunkelberger’s conviction for the fatal shooting of Jarron Slayback in June 2020—citing that the trial evidence did not support an initial aggressor instruction and making his case eligible for a retrial.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear vetoed a GOP-backed bill last Thursday that would have ended DEI programs at public universities and said the measure was based on hate—he stated that diversity strengthens our schools. Lawmakers may override his decision when they meet later this month.  WUKY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lexington hosted NCAA tournament games for the first time since 2013 as fans filled Rupp Arena and nearby streets—Lexington Police issued a traffic advisory while Visit Lex expected the event to bring a $10 million boost to the local economy.  ABC 36
  • The University of Kentucky women’s basketball coach Kenny Brooks was named The Sporting News National Coach of the Year—he led the team to its best season-to-season turnaround in history.  WUKY
  • UK women's coach Kenny Brooks urged Kentucky fans to fill out an excused absence form so they can attend the NCAA Championship First Round game today—tickets are available starting at $11.  WKYT
  • Graduate point guard Lamont Butler recovered from his shoulder injury and will play for Kentucky against Troy today at 7:10 p.m. He looked strong in practice and is set to lead the team in the NCAA Tournament.  ABC 36
