  • An organization in Lexington offered a commemorative UK cup to support Kentucky kids ahead of the Cats' huge Sweet 16 matchup Friday night—locals showed school spirit while using the cup to raise support for the cause.  WKYT
  • Project Ricochet is hosting its first Central Kentucky Black Family Conference today at 10 AM at the UK Gatton Student Center—a free event with sessions on health, mental health, finance, farming, and a panel with the Lexington Fayette County Health Department. The conference, in partnership with the UK College of Education, the UK Prevent Alliance, and other sponsors, aims to help Black families and allies build community and explore practical solutions.  WUKY

ECONOMY NEWS

  • VisitLEX has projected that March Madness will bring a $12 million boost to Lexington’s economy—this figure is higher than the original $10 million forecast. The projection includes $1.5 million from Women’s NCAA games and the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen tournament held at Rupp Arena, and local businesses note a return of the vibrant spirit seen after championship wins.  LEX 18

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lexington Police Department released a video on Friday morning urging residents to celebrate responsibly as the Wildcats play in the Sweet 16 game today—commander Sam Murdock warned that criminal acts like property destruction or burning furniture will not be tolerated. Lieutenant Chris Van Brackel also asked drivers to be patient as traffic officers direct vehicles.  LEX 18
  • Gov. Andy Beshear announced today that organizations can apply for over $586,000 in federal funds to help prevent youth crime in Kentucky. Eligible agencies must submit their online applications by 5 p.m. EDT on May 9 — awards are expected in September.  The Lane Report
