  • On April 4th, at the Lexington Farmers' Market, Josh and Joe discussed different mushrooms, shared a recipe for Hot & Sour Soup — and reminded shoppers that spring flowers are in bloom.  WUKY
  • Starting Monday, April 7, the Hunger Doesn’t Take a Spring Break program will serve students a hot meal at lunchtime and a snack bag at MLK Park, Green Acres Park, Whitney Young Park, Douglass Park, Dunbar Center and the Charles Young Center. Councilmember Tyler Morton and local partners plan to support at least 100 children each day during spring break—helping families facing food insecurity while out of school.  WKYT

  • Proud Mary's BBQ near Lexington had its outdoor seating and bar area flooded on Friday as the Kentucky River rose a foot an hour—a level not seen in 10 years. The owner said the restaurant is moving supplies to safety as more rain is expected this weekend.  ABC 36

CULTURE NEWS

  • Award winning professor Crystal Wilkinson talked about her new book—Praisesong for the Kitchen Ghosts: Stories and Recipes from Five Generations of Black Country Cooks—at the 2025 Edward F. Prichard Lecture at Young Library Auditorium in Lexington on March 28th. She said that looking into her family history turned an essay into a work that blends old family recipes with the stories of Black Appalachian cooks.  Kentucky Kernel
  • Lexington’s weekend features the 50th Central Kentucky Home & Garden Show at Central Bank Center with over 200 exhibitors, Bluegrass Youth Ballet’s The Little Mermaid at Lexington Opera House beginning today at 2 p.m., and Keeneland’s Spring Meet where races will be rescheduled for Monday and Tuesday after weather delays. Disney on Ice’s Mickey’s Search Party will appear at Rupp Arena on Saturday and Sunday.  WKYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Camp Nelson Camp Ground residents are evacuating as rising water levels in the Kentucky River prompt officials to urge extreme caution — drivers are advised not to cross water-covered roads.  LEX 18

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Linda Gorton declared a state of emergency in Fayette County because heavy rain and strong winds have made travel dangerous, and the order will last until 8 a.m. April 7—emergency teams are sending firefighters and rescue equipment to help nearby communities such as Bowling Green and Butler.  LEX 18
  • Today, the Lexington Planning Commission unanimously approved The Railyard, a $6 million mixed-use infill project at 1000 Delaware Avenue that will convert a vacant lot into 32 rental units and two commercial spaces for local businesses. The project, led by Will Hanrahan, will generate about 50 temporary construction jobs and 20 permanent positions with groundbreaking set for summer and completion expected within 12 months (32 units include 20 market rate and 12 for households earning up to 80% AMI).  The Lane Report
  • Governor Andy Beshear announced on Friday that his request for an emergency declaration was approved and that federal support will help respond to flooding. Swift water teams are working and the governor urged Kentuckians to stay alert and avoid high water (rain totals exceeded forecasts) (support is coming from other states).  LEX 18
