EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sam Grinnell-Spiller, a University of Kentucky equine science student, launched the UK Ranch Horse Team in Fall 2024 as part of her ESMA internship project—inviting students from all majors to join without tryouts. The club offers weekly practice for riding members and monthly meetings for social members to deepen their skills and build community.  The Lane Report

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A campground along the Kentucky River sustained major flood damage+ local residents are now seeing the full impact. Local officials are assessing the damage and will begin cleanup efforts soon+ further details are expected.  WKYT
  • Flooding along the Kentucky River has affected local homes and businesses—restaurants next to the river are assessing damage and will decide when to reopen.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Crews began demolition on Tuesday, April 8 to remove parts of Newmarket Hall for a new 350,000-s.f. multipurpose building at the Kentucky Exposition Center — a $560M project that will make it the nation’s fifth-largest convention center.  The Lane Report

  • Mark Pope picked up his fourth transfer portal recruit, Jayden Quaintance—who previously committed under former head coach John Calipari—and he will join the team after rehabbing an ACL injury against Kansas State. Quaintance's father said he will be cleared for full contact in November when the season begins.  ABC 36
