  • A Lexington-based nonprofit, Military Missions Operation SEND, will send special Easter packages containing snacks, hygiene products, clean socks and a handwritten letter to 2,800 servicemembers overseas—relying on strong local support. The organization said it plans to prepare similar packages for Independence Day.  ABC 36
  • UK alum Brent Cooper, a 1991 graduate and current president+CEO of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, works to connect local business leaders and boost community ties in Kentucky to improve life and work in the state.  The Lane Report

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A woman from Lexington was killed when an SUV collided with a dump truck Tuesday near the intersection of U.S. 42 and Beaver Road in Walton, causing the truck to flip into a restaurant + two SUV passengers died and one driver is in hospital while the dump truck driver had only minor injuries, according to Boone County Sheriff's Office.  ABC 36

CRIME NEWS

  • The University of Kentucky mourns the loss of 26-year-old athletic trainer Richie Wells Jr. who was killed in a crash in the Atlanta area during a police chase following a Chick-fil-A robbery—police say the surviving suspect may be linked to three other robberies.  LEX 18
  • The Lexington Police Department investigated after shots were fired into a Creekside Court home just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday — a vehicle was also hit while no one was hurt as investigators found shell casings and searched for a suspect.  ABC 36
  • Lexington police arrested two suspects in connection with a bank robbery at Central Bank on Richmond Road around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and they are due in court at 1 p.m. today.  ABC 36

  • Lex250 hosted 'An Evening Inspired by the Written Word' at Kentucky Theatre on Tuesday, April 8th to celebrate the city's 250th anniversary with performances by local poets, dancers and actors. Organized by the Lexington Public Library and its partners—Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning and Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center—the event showcased both traditional and modern art forms that highlighted Lexington’s rich literary history.  Kentucky Kernel

  • Flood waters have receded in many parts of Kentucky but Sarah Miller in rural Clark County now faces a mudslide threat after last weekend's flooding left her private road on Pine Ridge Road in ruins—she fears more rain could trigger a landslide that blocks her access and affects nearby power lines.  LEX 18
