ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • South Broadway in Lexington was closed after a wreck occurred before 7 a.m. near the intersection of South Broadway and Bolivar Street—an injury was reported in the crash.  FOX 56

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A historic bourbon distillery in Lexington reported flood damage and said it will soon share plans for repairs—cleanup efforts and damage assessments are underway.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said a Lexington gas station on New Circle Road was robbed Friday morning at 3:37 a.m., when someone broke in and stole an unknown amount of cash—no one was hurt and the suspect remains unidentified.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officer Devan Gales passed away on Thursday while off duty—he served the department since 2004 and was remembered for his warm smile and infectious laugh.  ABC 36
  • Officer Devan Gales died yesterday while off duty. He had served in Lexington's police department since October 2004 as an East Sector patrol officer.  WKYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • UK HealthCare nurse Jimmy Williams—a Prestonsburg native with nearly 20 years of experience—will leave on May 5 to spend 15 days in Ukraine. He will set up temporary clinics to provide free care for people with long-term illnesses as part of the Global Care Force mission.  WKYT
  • April is child abuse prevention month aimed at raising awareness of abuse and neglect. Later this month, the Children Advocacy Center of the Bluegrass will host a pinwheel planting event to help the community recognize signs of abuse (Taylor Ballinger said one in ten children face abuse before age 18).  ABC 36

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carl Spackler, trained by Chad Brown, won the Maker’s Mark Mile at Keeneland on Friday by four and a half lengths. Jockey Flavien Prat said the Irish horse surged from fourth place at the far turn to secure his third Grade 1 win—maintaining his unbeaten record at Keeneland.  ABC 36
