COMMUNITY NEWS

  • An Anderson County man and a mother battling cancer face a damaged home after recent floods—despite the wreckage, they say it is still home.  WKYT
  • The University of Kentucky hosted The Luckiest Benefit at Gatton Student Center on April 8 to support foster care programs—featuring celebrity performances by Miss America participants, a podcast panel, and a fashion show. Founder Ariana Rodriguez, who spent years in foster and kinship care, said the event helped give a voice to young people often told to be quiet.  Kentucky Kernel

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash at the intersection of Man O' War Boulevard and Saron Drive is impacting traffic and a crew on site has seen damage to at least two cars — police are being contacted for more details.  LEX 18
  • On April 12, a car crashed into a business building on the 3000 block of Beaumont Center Circle in Lexington—damaging the structure as police reported that the driver remained in the car with no injuries and no charges filed.  ABC 36
  • The Fayette County Coroner reported that 23-year-old Nishit Patel fell from the Clays Ferry Bridge around 5:45 p.m. on Friday—KSP pronounced him dead at the scene as officials continue investigating the cause.  ABC 36

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Keeneland hosted College Scholarship Day on Friday, April 11 at its racetrack in Lexington, offering free admission to full-time college students (with $40,000 in scholarships available via raffle). Transylvania University sophomore Maggie Simmons, who won a $10,000 award, said the event gave her hope and eased her family's financial burden.  Kentucky Kernel

  • Governor Andy Beshear and first lady Britainy Beshear hosted an Easter celebration on the Capitol South Lawn in Frankfort on Sunday that gave a break to families still recovering from last week's flooding — food trucks, crafts, and the Easter Bunny made the event festive — the gathering helped lift spirits during a challenging time.  LEX 18
