- ➤ Tuesday morning, Gatton Park unveiled 'First Impressions,' a giant fossil replica made to show the unique limestone of Lexington — built from old fossils — along a timeline of local history. CEO Allison Lankford said construction on the park moved forward and it will open later this summer. LEX 18

- ➤ Principal Eric Hale confirmed that a firearm was found in a student's backpack at Bryan Station High School on Tuesday, when metal detectors discovered it and the school police (Fayette County Public Schools Police Department) along with administrators responded and took disciplinary measures. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky's Catholic community is remembering Pope Francis, known as the People's Pope for his work with the poor, as local leaders share heartfelt memories from meetings with him (including when he received a bottle of bourbon and a signed jersey). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky officials with NHTSA urge drivers to keep their eyes on the road this month because using cell phones while driving can lead to fatal accidents. Data shows that more than 3,275 people died from distracted driving in 2023 and nearly 800 Kentuckians lost their lives between 2019 and 2023, while 4,400 were seriously injured. FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at Morehead State University studied 440 students in fall 2024 to understand teen use of vape products and energy drinks; they found that many teenagers start using these products between 13 and 15 and that serious health risks like heart attacks and seizures are a concern + a new law that went into effect on Jan. 1 limited vape sales to products with FDA safe harbor certification. - ➤ The University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center enrolled its 10,000th patient in the Oncology Research Information Exchange Network since 2017—helping its Total Cancer Care program track patient data to guide new cancer treatments. The Lane Report
- ➤ Kentucky labor unions warned that federal job cuts announced yesterday at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health will weaken safety protections for workers — reducing the agency’s staff from about 1,400 to fewer than 150 and eliminating programs for 9/11 firefighters and coal miner research.
