COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Drivers on Military Pike are asked to be quiet near Winter Quarter Farm—where newborn foals and sleeping babies rest—so the farm can have a peaceful foaling season. Owner Don Robinson said the farm will prepare the foals for racing or auction and hopes one may become a future champion.  FOX 56
  • Lexington Parks and Recs introduced a new all-terrain trackchair at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary that lets people with mobility issues explore unpaved trails and WUKY’s Karyn Czar tested it during a demo. The $20,000 project funded by Councilwoman Whitney Elliott Baxter’s Office Capital Fund will be expanded if the trial is successful—offering further access to nature.  WUKY
  • Today, Lexington debuted a new Action Trackchair at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary that lets visitors with mobility challenges explore an extra five miles of unpaved trails—funded by the Urban County Council and Lexington Parks and Recreation. The new chair marks the first municipal purchase of its kind to improve nature trail access.  ABC 36
  • Lexington officials unveiled Kentucky’s first hiking mobility aid at Raven Run Nature Sanctuary on Wednesday— the new Action Trackchair lets visitors with mobility challenges reserve a chair free for two-hour increments and enjoy outdoor programming.  FOX 56

  • Logan-Ann Moberly, owner of Careful Cleaning Services, reached out to neighbors and clients impacted by the recent flooding to check on their well-being—she said her cleaning business faced scheduling changes that she managed with her roles as a school social worker and personal trainer. This approach has helped her support the community while keeping the business running.  FOX 56

CRIME NEWS

  • Kyshawn Owens was sentenced to 12 years in prison today after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the 2024 shooting death of Chadwick Boone at Brothers Bar and Grille in Lexington—he was arrested in New York months after the incident.  ABC 36

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Fayette County Public Schools parent said her 7th-grade son at Beaumont Middle School experienced daily antisemitic bullying—receiving Nazi salutes and hateful remarks—and was moved into a homebound program for safety. The local Jewish community—supporting the family—urged school officials to act immediately.  WKYT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Environmental Quality and Public Works Committee will hear an update on the Lex Grow Trees program from Heather Wilson (Urban and Community Forestry Section Manager) and Lauren Gawthrop (Impressions Marketing), which supports hazardous tree removal and tree planting projects in Lexington. The initiative has awarded about $887k to 15 organizations out of 43 applications and has already helped plant over 1,800 trees as Mayor Gorton has planned additional funding in the Proposed Budget.  CivicLex

  • At the Kentucky Horse Park, the Defender Kentucky Three Day Event began on Wednesday and will end on Sunday. Top riders from around the world — including local rider Boyd Martin, Olympic champion Michael Young, and Great Britain’s Tom McEwan — are competing in one of only seven five-star events in the world.  WUKY
