CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lexington 32-year-old Phillip McElroy, already booked in March for fatally shooting Tai’ Maricus Warner, allegedly stabbed another inmate 11 times Tuesday at the Fayette County Detention Center and is set for a preliminary hearing on Monday morning at 8:30—jail officials said the victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and the investigation continues. - ➤ Lexington Police say a man was shot around 11 p.m. on Crossen Way near Armstrong Mill Road—he later went to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as investigators work to identify a suspect. ABC 36
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Governor Andy Beshear announced more than a dozen new training programs at adult correctional facilities to help former inmates gain skills and secure jobs. The programs will begin as early as this summer and offer training in plumbing, construction, HVAC and commercial vehicle operation—part of his reentry plan funded by the Education and Labor Cabinet. - ➤ Kentucky ranks fourth highest in child abuse cases in the nation according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Attorney General Russell Coleman said 22% of children have faced traumatic events and that state grant funding for abuse prevention events is accepting applications—ranging from $1,000 to $5,000—until April 30.
