COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Public Relations Society of America Thoroughbred Chapter from Lexington was named a 2025 PRominent Chapter Award winner by the PRSA East Central District for the third year in a row. The award recognizes the chapter’s leadership—member engagement, professional development and community service—and will guide its efforts in advancing local communications in 2025 and beyond.  The Lane Report

CRIME NEWS

  • Kentucky State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on Sugar Maple Road in Knox County that happened Tuesday night when deputies responded to a call about a barricaded woman making suicidal threats—53-year-old Daisy Allen reportedly sprayed the deputies with an unknown substance, armed herself with a pitchfork, and forced a deputy to discharge his weapon which struck her in the abdomen; she was taken to UK Healthcare Albert B Chandler Hospital in Lexington in critical condition while no deputies were injured though some needed aftercare for their faces.  LEX 18
  • Lexington police asked residents for help to find a woman who allegedly stole a Discover credit card from a mailbox container on the 300 block of Foreman Drive on April 6 and 7 & used it at several locations.  LEX 18
  • A Kentucky woman remains hospitalized after being shot by police officers on Sugar Maple Drive in the Green Road area—she was flown to UK Hospital after initial treatment at Knox Community Hospital and no officers were hurt as KSP investigates the incident.  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, a new issue brief by Ithaka S+R explains why 557,000 Kentuckians with some college credit but no degree did not re-enroll, noting challenges like unpaid balances and enrollment holds. The Council on Postsecondary Education will host a webinar at 2 p.m. ET on June 13 to discuss solutions—such as flexible payment plans and debt forgiveness—that could help more adults earn college credentials by 2030.  The Lane Report

  • Gov. Beshear signed a new law protecting children from digital abuse—Senate Bill 73 mandates that sixth-graders receive lessons on recognizing online sextortion red flags and clarifies legal remedies for victims.  WUKY
  • Homeowners and renters in designated counties can apply for FEMA disaster assistance for storm damage and may also apply for low-interest SBA disaster loans to cover repairs or replacement+applications can be submitted online, via the mobile app, or at Disaster Recovery Centers until June 25. FEMA does not require an SBA loan application for assistance.  WUKY
