- ➤ One person is missing after a boat accident on Laurel Lake West as crews search near the city dam—Fire Chief Darren Pennington with East Bernstadt Fire and Rescue said. LEX 18

- ➤ On May 4, Lexington animal care officials reported that scammers posing as LFACC officers called residents to ask for money, and they urged people to report any suspicious calls to the police—officials stressed that real officers always wear uniforms and drive marked vehicles. - ➤ Dia Davidson-Smith, the executive director of public engagement for Fayette County Public Schools, will resign on July 30 after serving since July 2023. No decision has been made on her replacement — her resignation was announced as part of a recent school board agenda. FOX 56
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rising water levels in the Kentucky River are lifting debris left from last month's floods that threatens the Valley View Ferry, which carries between 13,000 and 17,000 riders a month plus the crew will shut down service if debris increases. LEX 18
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lextran General Manager Fred Combs will present a proposed $37.9 million FY26 budget at the Council Work Session on Tuesday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m. Council members will vote on the budget, which calls for bus upgrades with digital screens and new vehicles but omits funding for a microtransit pilot program (with some, like Councilmember Chuck Ellinger, poised to challenge the proposal). - ➤ Principal Planner Daniel Crum will present a proposed zoning ordinance text amendment at Tuesday's General Government and Planning Committee meeting that sets new rules for solar panel installations on homes, businesses, and factories. The amendment was developed after a private company's plan for a large solar panel farm was rejected and would allow integrated and roof-mounted systems as well as small ground-mounted installations—while keeping large ground-mounted panels out of agricultural areas.
