COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Kentucky Bar Foundation will host its annual luncheon on June 6 at the Hyatt Regency Lexington to award $311,910 in grants to 34 nonprofits statewide & mark its highest grant distribution ever. A workshop led by legal expert Kelly Wesley Taylor will help 2025 grantees build new fundraising strategies to support groups in areas like child advocacy and domestic violence prevention.  The Lane Report

CRIME NEWS

  • A driver suspected of DUI crashed into a utility pole early Friday morning in Lexington around 3:40 a.m. on Walton and Cramer Avenue, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and police say the driver fled the scene—later found as crews repaired the pole.  ABC 36

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 23, the Lexington Children’s Museum opened a new exhibit featuring engineering projects by Tates Creek and Bryan Station high school students, with support from CHI Saint Joseph Health. The exhibit gives children hands-on ways to learn about healthcare professions—mixing classroom work with real-world skills—and meets state STEM standards.  Fayette County Public Schools
  • Dr. Aaron Thompson, president of the Council on Postsecondary Education, was inducted into the Junior Achievement Bluegrass Business Hall of Fame on May 22 at Keeneland Race Track for his career achievements and service as a role model for youth—he was the first Kentucky native and African American to serve as CPE president and earned awards including the 2024 Exceptional Leader Award.  The Lane Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Budget Director John Hicks said that March and April receipts for the General Fund fell 6.4 percent and Road Fund receipts dropped 6.3 percent compared to last year. The decline came as a new IT system delayed reporting plus an extended tax filing deadline due to flooding affected the figures.  The Lane Report

HEALTH NEWS

  • Planet Fitness announced a free workout program for high school teens ages 14—19 this summer in Lexington, running from June 1 through Aug. 31 to help build fitness habits when school is out. Interested teens can register on the gym’s website to join the program.  LEX 18
