COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, the city cut the ribbon at Kelley's Landing Park, Lexington’s first park with public river access that spans 30 acres along the Kentucky River palisades. The park—named after the Kelley family and opened after a year of work—is open from dawn to dusk and will add walking trails and natural play areas in future phases based on a master plan gathered from over 2,000 people. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A shooting at an apartment complex in Lexington today at around 5:20 p.m. resulted in one death after officers arrived and found a male victim with a fatal gunshot wound. WKYT
- ➤ A man was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Lexington after officers arrived at the 3800 block of Nicholasville Road around 5:20 p.m.—detectives ask residents to check surveillance footage for clues. WKYT
- ➤ Police are investigating the shooting death of a man at Bridle Creek Apartments on Nicholasville Road (shots were reported on May 28) as the Fayette County Coroner arrived and detectives ask residents to review camera footage (no suspect has been named yet). LEX 18
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Blue Grass Airport will add 815 long-term parking spots by the summer travel season in 2026 to ease parking shortages as more than 1.5 million passengers used the airport last year. Airport officials say the project will include a reconfigured Terminal Drive loop, a new exit plaza & a second covered walkway and is the first step toward future terminal expansion. LEX 18
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kentucky’s Utilities and Energy Management team won a Grand Award at the 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards for its stormwater harvesting system at the campus Central Utility Plant, a project that began in 2017 and went online in fall 2023. The system, developed with Bell Engineering and backed by a local grant, captures up to 25 million gallons of stormwater each year — cutting the plant’s need for purchased water. The Lane Report
