  • On May 30th, 2025, Josh and Joe introduced several types of peas at the Farmers' Market to be used in soups, stews, as sides, and even as potential dessert ingredients— a trial that will help decide if these peas fit a new menu trend.  WUKY

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Friday morning two elderly passengers were rescued from their stalled car on Bowman Mill Road as rising water trapped them—firefighters used an inflatable boat to bring the 81-year-old and 85-year-old to safety.  LEX 18
  • On Friday morning, a Lexington couple was rescued when their car stalled in high water on Bowman Mill Road near the Kentucky River — four firefighters used a raft and life jackets to save them. The road remains closed because of the high water, and no one was injured.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded early Friday morning to a robbery at Thortons on Winchester Road in Lexington—no one was hurt and the suspect was reportedly armed with a gun.  WKYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Railbird music festival will bring popular acts like Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson and Riley Green to Lexington this weekend, and festival executive Ted Heinig said his team and the Lexington Police kept traffic moving smoothly last year (when the event cleared in less than 45 minutes). He advised visitors to bring rainboots and a jacket (as rain may create puddles on site).  WKYT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Griffin Humfleet, a rising senior at Bryan Station High School, became one of Kentucky’s youngest licensed pilots after finishing 10 months of flight training and passing his private pilot test in May. He will build more flight hours this summer by flying with his father on Sunday — as they check tornado damage in London and plan for college visits.  WKYT
  • FCPS held Learning with Liggins: Summer Challenge on May 30 to encourage students to stay active during break (participants visited the library, explored the arts, played board games or solved puzzles to complete the 16-block challenge board).  Fayette County Public Schools
