CRIME NEWS

  • Lexington Blue was ordered to cease operations — its assets frozen as Attorney General Russell Coleman investigated allegations that the company received $4.8 million for over 300 unfinished roofing jobs, with over 70 clients filing complaints.  FOX 56
  • Recent data from the city's website shows Lexington recorded 14 assaults with firearms in June—the lowest number since 2021, with homicides and non-fatal shootings following a similar downward trend and National Gun Violence Awareness Day falling on Friday.  WUKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On June 2, 2025, school teams competed in the district’s Battle of the Books, practicing reading comprehension and earning spots for a countywide championship; Tates Creek won the middle school division while SCAPA at Bluegrass led the elementary division with Clays Mill, Veterans Park & Ashland following. The program encouraged students to read a wide range of books to prepare for the contest.  Fayette County Public Schools

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A portion of East High Street between Woodland Avenue and Rose Street in downtown Lexington was closed on June 2nd for a pilot project to improve pedestrian safety and reduce speeding following resident concerns—installation will finish on June 6th with a lane reduction, a new bike lane, and 36 extra parking spots. Traffic officials urge motorists and residents to plan ahead during the project.  WUKY

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Heart Association and Lexington Fire Department teamed up during National CPR and AED Awareness Week and Month to update the #LEXSaveLives campaign and boost hands-only CPR training at 24 fire stations, which helped raise Fayette County's bystander CPR response rate from 7 to 18 percent. The groups will appear at the Lexington Legends game on June 12 to demonstrate CPR techniques— a move aimed at saving more lives.  LEX 18

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Wildcats ended their season after a 13—12 regional championship loss to West Virginia at Doug Kinsmore Stadium following a 16—4 win against Clemson on Sunday. The team, which posted a 31—26 record and faced many injuries with a roster of new players, reached its third straight regional and saw several young players break through under Coach Nick Mingione's guidance.  WUKY
