COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lexington’s annual Truck-a-Palooza will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frederick Douglass High School on Winchester Road, where families can view over two dozen trucks including those from the fire and police departments and enjoy sensory-friendly hours — no horns or sirens — from 9 to 11 a.m.  ABC 36

CRIME NEWS

  • Lexington police responded to gunfire on June 2 near Winburn Drive and McCullough Drive where they found shell casings and treated a male victim for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound — detectives continue to investigate the scene.  ABC 36
  • Lexington police responded to a reported domestic incident on Daniel Court Monday night where they found a person with multiple stab wounds—no arrests have been made as the victim is expected to be okay.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fayette County Public Schools announced it is hiring a Dean of Students at Bryan Station High School in Lexington today. FCPS spokesperson Dia Davidson-Smith said the posting is not linked to John Jay Bordas — who remains employed until his case goes to court.  ABC 36
  • The Lexington Public Library launched its Summer at the Library program last Tuesday and it will run through July 25—offering free books, outdoor games, story characters, live animal displays, free Lextran rides using Student Success Cards, and school lunches provided by Fayette County Public Schools.  ABC 36

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky lawmakers are back in Frankfort today for the start of their summer and fall interim session—legislators plan to review policy issues, hold joint committee meetings, and begin work on the state budget and road plan while forming task forces to gather public input and hear from experts.  ABC 36

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local swim instructors at Goldfish Swim School advised Lexington families on pool safety after the CDC reported that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages one to four. They urged parents to secure pools and enroll children in lessons, and the school will offer a free swim lesson on June 26 — a chance for kids to learn vital water safety skills.  FOX 56
