ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tornado on May 30 hit a Washington County home and tossed family members in the air, killing cousin Ronnie Hill and injuring Stoney and Tabitha Hills who are now in UK Hospital with head injuries and broken ribs — they said nothing remains of their home.  LEX 18

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lexington will celebrate its 250th anniversary with the Big Ass Bourbon Tasting at LexLive on June 11 where attendees can sample bourbon flights featuring four brands—LF Heritage Distilling, Bespoken Spirits, Maker’s Mark, and RD One Spirits—while enjoying live music, food, and specialty cocktails. Tickets are required and free parking is available at 301 South Broadway.  The Lane Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman said the Fayette County Public Schools tax increase is unlawful because the board did not give public notice before raising the tax. The board approved the tax in May to close a $16 million gap, and the tax increase will be discussed today at a fiscal court meeting.  WKYT
  • FCPS said it disagrees with the Attorney General’s opinion on the May 27 vote—arguing that the opinion did not use the needed statute—and will allow more public comment at the June 23 board meeting while focusing on student achievement. This response comes as the district works closely with the Fiscal Court to meet community expectations.  Fayette County Public Schools
  • Mayor Linda Gorton announced she will appoint a task force on homelessness in Lexington after a recent study showed critical needs in the city. The task force will work to find solutions to help residents and improve support services.  WKYT
