  • Officials urge people to stay safe on the water after 25-year-old Michael Looby (tubing participant) lost his life when he went underwater over the weekend (drowning incident).  WKYT

  • UK police reported that a parked Nissan Altima was set on fire behind Memorial Coliseum on Sunday—Lexington Fire Department quickly put out the flames and campus police shared safety precautions with everyone.  FOX 56

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fayette County School Board halted its proposed tax increase after a legal opinion ruled the measure unlawful, and it will now form a committee of community stakeholders to review the school budget (including a change from 0.5% to 0.75%) before the September deadline.  ABC 36

HEALTH NEWS

  • The CDC recently cut $200,000 in annual HIV prevention funding from AVOL Kentucky — a nonprofit that has provided testing and outreach for over 30 years — as part of a national funding overhaul that may lead to fewer prevention services for Kentuckians.  The Lane Report
