ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Just after 11 p.m. on Sunday night, Lexington police responded to a collision on South Broadway and Virginia Avenue—both vehicles caught fire and one motorcycle rider was critically injured while a passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the cause is under investigation.  FOX 56
  • Residents in Holiday Hills reported that a speeding vehicle crashed into Jeff Moore's trailer on Bordeaux Drive — a wake-up call of long-standing reckless driving as council member Jennifer Reynolds now works with traffic engineering on a new plan pending homeowner support.  LEX 18
  • Two people were hurt in a fiery crash in Lexington three hours ago—emergency crews responded quickly to control the blaze and care for those injured.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • Over the weekend, a fire set off by vandalism destroyed the interior of an Express Employment Professionals office in Lexington when someone broke a window and ignited it with accelerant, and while the sprinkler system kept the flames in check—flooding the space and causing over $100,000 in damage—the business owner Laura Mobley-Corn said she will rebuild to support staff and job seekers.  LEX 18

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Today, a study by the Kentucky Department of Tourism showed that Fayette County’s travel and tourism reached a record $1.7 billion in 2024, bringing in over $131 million in tax money. The study also said tourism supported 11,851 jobs — boosting our local economy.  The Lane Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kentucky public colleges and universities increased enrollment and graduation rates in the 2023-24 school year. The report from the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education shows that KCTCS enrollment grew by 6.8% and public university figures rose by 3.9% while graduation rates reached record highs — though unmet financial need for university students increased by 9.2%.  The Lane Report
  • Commerce Lexington Inc. recognized 50 area residents who graduated from the Leadership Lexington program presented by Community Trust Bank on June 12 at Transylvania University—this program has been developing local leaders since 1979. Rachel Skinner earned the Distinguished Leader Award for her CompostLex project that turned restaurant food waste into worm compost for local schools.  The Lane Report
  • Families of FCPS students who plan to ride a bus for the 2025-26 school year must register through Campus Parent by July 27 and then in person with school registrars starting July 28 — this new process lets the district plan bus routes before school begins in mid-August.  Fayette County Public Schools
