ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A two-vehicle crash on West Tiverton Way and Nicholasville Road late Tuesday night resulted in one person being taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries—police say the cause remains under investigation. ABC 36
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Lexington Blue, a roofing company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 16 after more than 70 clients complained about over 300 unfinished projects and $4.8 million in paid work. A hearing is set for 9 a.m. on June 26—while the attorney general continues his investigation into the company. FOX 56
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Fayette County Public Schools’ Fine Arts Department will present Mamma Mia! as a summer musical where over 50 high school students (from incoming freshmen through outgoing seniors) spend three weeks training to create a full show. Bryan Station High School hosts the performances on June 27 at 7 p.m., June 28 at 2 and 7 p.m., and June 29 at 2 p.m. (admission is $10 for students and $15 for adults). Fayette County Public Schools
- ➤ Today at 11:00 a.m., the Lexington Freedom Train will unveil the 'Towards Freedom' monument in downtown Lexington to honor the city's Underground Railroad legacy. The monument honors local abolitionists Lewis and Harriett Hayden—two enslaved Lexingtonians who became recognized abolitionists—and received $245,000 in funding from the Public Arts Commission. - ➤ City leaders in Lexington broke ground on the new Legacy Business Park yesterday—this 200-acre site between Georgetown Road and I-75 is expected to generate nearly 1,700 jobs and about $6.8 million in local tax revenue, funded by federal grants and taxpayer dollars. ABC 36
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Fayette County Public Schools leaders formed a budget solutions work group to let Lexington residents and key stakeholders help solve spending issues and a $16 million budget gap after a failed tax increase. The group, which includes educators, PTA members, students and local business leaders, will meet on June 25, July 15 and July 29 at The Hub for Innovative Learning and Leadership at 100 Midland Avenue—led by an independent facilitator—to review long-term financial challenges following a state auditor’s special examination.
