COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Red River Gorge General Store received a handwritten letter from a young boy who sent $3 for a candy that cost $1.99 after his brother took it without paying. Manager Adrienne McMahon said the store is tracking down the family (from Atlanta) and will thank them with a basket of goodies and a two-night cabin stay.  LEX 18

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 20th, the Lexington Fire Department responded to a small house fire on Gerald Drive when residents escaped by using a second-floor window to reach the roof—flames burned below but the fire was contained to the first floor and no injuries were reported.  FOX 56

CRIME NEWS

  • Lexington police arrested 19-year-old Malachi Haynes for a shooting near Georgetown Road and Citation Boulevard that injured one person last week—he admitted being in the car and was taken on June 18 at 11:45 p.m. on East Main Street, and he now faces charges including first-degree assault.  FOX 56
  • Brooks Houck was moved to Warren County ahead of his trial set to begin next week—he is accused in the disappearance and presumed death of Crystal Rogers, who vanished in Bardstown in 2015.  ABC 36
  • Lexington Blue, a once trusted roofing company, halted operations earlier this year after taking nearly $5 million for over 300 projects—leaving many homeowners with unfinished roofs and lost funds while Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman filed suit for false, misleading practices.  FOX 56
  • Lexington Police have issued a Golden Alert for 22-year-old Chance Ridgeway who was last seen on Buckhorn Drive on June 17 wearing a white t-shirt and khaki shorts — police noted he has autism, may have used a rideshare or be on foot, and urged anyone with information to call 911.  LEX 18

CULTURE NEWS

  • A monument honoring former slaves turned abolitionists Lewis and Harriet Hayden was unveiled in Lexington on Juneteenth as Governor Andy Beshear spoke about preserving their legacy on the Underground Railroad. The hand-in-hand statue titled 'Towards Freedom' stands in the historic East End (near Lexington Traditional Magnet School) and commemorates their journey to freedom.  WUKY
