ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A driver is fighting for their life after crashing into the side of a Save A Lot on Broadway Street in Georgetown at 3 a.m. Monday—officers report the driver, who was the only one in the car, was taken to a hospital while the Collision Investigation Unit investigates the incident. WKYT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky State Police have been searching for a 28-year-old escaped inmate from the Bluegrass Career and Development Center in Richmond who walked away on Sunday evening and was last seen in a white tank top, black sweatpants, and white tennis shoes—officials said anyone with information should call KSP at 859-623-2404. - ➤ Fayette County Court indicted Ronald Smith for vehicular manslaughter in the crash that killed LEX 18 employee Billy Williamson in May 2024—he also faces DUI, lapsed insurance, and expired registration charges with an active warrant issued last Friday. LEX 18
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Lexington held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 20 for the 200-acre Legacy Business Park near the University of Kentucky’s Coldstream Research Park — the project will develop 19 job-related lots expected to add nearly 1,700 jobs and generate $6.8 million in local tax revenue annually — as it begins a $22.6 million infrastructure upgrade. - ➤ Over 40 rising high school seniors from Kentucky are attending IFAL—a five-day leadership conference hosted by the Kentucky Farm Bureau—to explore college life and careers in agriculture at the University of Kentucky and Murray State University. Students participate in field trips, classes and leadership sessions to learn how agriculture helps keep food on our tables and clothes on our bodies. LEX 18

- ➤ Today, Lexington activated phase 1 of its extreme heat plan by opening more than ten cooling centers and offering free transit as temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s through Friday. The city’s fire department treated three residents for heat-related issues over the weekend. FOX 56
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Luke Robinson, a trash collector for Rumpke Waste & Recycling, said Fayette County workers take breaks in the shade and drink water as supervisors adjust shifts to avoid the worst of the summer heat. The team uses cooling towels — provided with Gatorade and ice — to lower the risk of heat exhaustion, as EPA research shows outdoor work brings extra heat risks. WKYT
- ➤ Dr. Steven Stack, the new secretary of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, warned that cuts to Medicaid and SNAP could push vulnerable Kentuckians into despair if safety net programs weaken.
