COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Garret Chronowski's daughter Lenny has been in the hospital since April after being diagnosed with Wilms tumor—a form of kidney cancer—and the local hockey community has united to host fundraisers to help with her medical expenses.  LEX 18

ECONOMY NEWS

  • About 52,900 undocumented immigrants live in Kentucky and add nearly $883.1 million in spending power while paying millions in taxes. Local experts said rising ICE raids have caused concern, but officials report Lexington remains unaffected—neighbors are urged to seek legal advice if needed.  LEX 18

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lexington activated Phase One of its Extreme Heat Plan today and opened cooling centers throughout the city to help residents avoid dangerous temperatures—offering water, snacks and free LexTran rides for vulnerable people. Emergency management officials expect the heat to break soon and say the centers are essential to protect the community.  LEX 18
  • Senate Bill 181 will go into effect Friday and requires public school employees and volunteers to get a signed consent form from a parent before contacting students by text messages or third-party apps. Lawmakers say the new law aims to protect children from potential abuse by keeping all communications accessible to parents.  FOX 56
  • The Kentucky National Guard celebrated its 233rd anniversary Tuesday morning during a ceremony that renamed a section of US 127 (the West Frankfort Connector) as the Kentucky National Guard Memorial Highway. Governor Andy Beshear signed a proclamation naming June 24 as Kentucky National Guard Day while Major General Haldane B. Lamberton noted that soldiers from the Guard are serving in the Middle East.  WKYT
