- ➤ Eastern Light Distilling has chosen Lexington-based Gray to build its new 50,000 square foot state-of-the-art distillery in Morehead. The facility, set to produce more than 100,000 barrels annually with a 54-inch column still, will be finished by early 2026—supporting a fresh chapter for Bourbon in the region. The Lane Report

- ➤ The murder trial of Brooks Houck and Joseph Lawson for the killing of Crystal Rogers began on Wednesday, June 25, as prosecutors presented new evidence—linking a request by Houck’s mother to have Rogers eliminated—to suggest she died at the Houck family farm, while the defense prepares to enter its opening statement later. - ➤ Lexington police are looking for 27-year-old Jarrin Bishop — he is wanted on multiple warrants in Fayette and Scott counties for fleeing police, failure to appear in court, wanton endangerment, and disregarding a stop sign, and detectives will offer a cash reward for tips. FOX 56

- ➤ UK was awarded a four-year, $913,685 grant from the National Science Foundation to launch REACH—an initiative that uses data and smart tools to improve research analytics. The project will begin July 1 and will help build a national community for responsible research assessment. The Lane Report

- ➤ Fayette County Board of Education held its first Budget Solutions Work Group meeting Wednesday evening at The Hill on Midland Avenue — starting at 5:30 p.m. — to explore alternatives after a property tax increase was paused due to community concerns; officials said additional sessions will be held on July 15 and July 29. - ➤ Fayette County Public Schools held the first meeting of a 31-member budget workgroup on Wednesday night — the panel was formed after public pushback over a proposed tax increase aimed at filling a $16 million spending gap. The group, which includes community members, parents, educators and students, will review documents before meeting on July 15 and 29 to develop recommendations for the school board. WUKY
