COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, Lexington Parks and Recreation holds its first event at Kelley’s Landing—a 30 acre park along the Kentucky River purchased in 2022—to launch summer programs with a guided hike that explains the park’s history and natural features. The department will offer extra events this summer including night walks, wildlife studies, monthly bird walks, and volunteer activities to connect residents with the park. FOX 56
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire broke out at Briarwood Apartments on Centre Parkway at 2:30 a.m. Friday morning—firefighters quickly contained the blaze with adjacent units unharmed—and one resident was hospitalized for smoke inhalation. FOX 56
- ➤ Crews responded to a fire on Centre Parkway just after midnight Friday and one resident was taken to the hospital for treatment after inhaling smoke — no one was displaced. WKYT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Severe storms damaged roads in Lexington on Thursday, causing closures on Newtown Pike near I-75, at intersections with Nandino Boulevard and Citation Boulevard, and on Georgetown Road. Utility crews repaired damaged power poles and lines — police directed traffic while officials said repairs were expected to be finished Friday morning. FOX 56
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky is the first state to capture high-resolution aerial imagery of its entire landscape, which gives all certified 911 call centers free LiDAR data to aid in rescues and other emergency responses. The project began in fall 2022 with a $17 million biennial budget and also supports economic and infrastructure planning — the images are open online for everyone. The Lane Report
- ➤ Today, more than 140 new laws take effect in Kentucky after the General Assembly passed them during its thirty‐day session—these measures include limits on cell phone use in schools, mandatory training for athletic coaches on reporting child abuse, a financial literacy credit requirement for high school graduation, and an income tax cut from 4% to 3.5% that will begin next January. The state will also align workplace safety rules with federal standards and tighten controls on sales of nicotine and vapor products to curb underage use. WUKY
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Cancer Link’s Yes Mamm program has helped over 6500 women get lifesaving breast cancer screenings since 2012 and connects uninsured patients to free services. The program will celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Yes Mamm 5K — set for October — which will bring breast cancer survivors together. WKYT
- ➤ Kentucky health officials reported four new measles cases this week, bringing the total to six as three cases came from one Woodford household and one from Todd after international travel — none were vaccinated. Health officials are investigating who may have been exposed while the infected were contagious — and they urge residents to check their vaccination status. ABC 36

- ➤ The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame inducted five new members Friday evening in Lexington — Michael Bush, Danny Trevathan, Jim Daopoulos, Sam Gruneasen, and Walt Yowarsky.
