- ➤ One Lexington is awarding $150,000 in grants to 18 grassroots organizations including Alpha League, FoodChain and Lexington Ravens Football Program to help reduce youth gun violence. The funding comes as the city reports a 68% drop in youth shooting victims and a 10% decrease in homicides over the past year — marking the fourth year and largest funding amount of the grant program. - ➤ As summer heats up, Lexington has kept its pools open and fully staffed thanks to a recruitment push that offered discounted training and wage increases to boost lifeguard numbers to 150–the highest in recent memory. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 28-year-old man who shared an apartment with the victim was arrested on Thursday morning after Zemondric Hall was fatally shot near Bridle Creek Apartments on May 28—Nathaniel Danzy is charged with murder and held on a $750,000 bond. FOX 56
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A June salmonella outbreak was tied to custard-based pies and cheesecakes at Ramsey’s Diner when ten people—four in Fayette County, two in Jessamine, two in Mercer, one in Fleming and one out-of-state visitor—fell ill after dining there between June 17 and 20. The restaurant has reopened after a thorough cleaning and health officials advise locals to discard any leftover desserts since eggs used in the recipes may have been contaminated. FOX 56
- ➤ Health officials reported that salmonella was linked to desserts at Ramsey’s Diners after 10 people became ill from custard-based pies and cheesecakes eaten between June 17 and 20. The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is working with Ramsey’s and Missy’s Pies—disposing of pies and eggs while sending samples to the state lab—and advises anyone with symptoms to seek care.
