- ➤ City officials released new aerial footage of Gatton Park, a ten-acre project on a former parking lot behind Rupp Arena, which will include a performance stage, ADA-accessible playground and water play area for families. The park will open at noon on August 23rd — a major new community space downtown. ABC 36
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ University of Kentucky doctor Marites Buenafe was reported missing after leaving a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Tuesday to hike and her body was located on Thursday by a National Guard helicopter 1,700 feet below Gold Ridge near Juneau, and authorities are investigating her death. ABC 36
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested 51-year-old Samuel Clay for first-degree robbery after he forcibly entered a Sportsman Motel room on May 10—where a victim said he threatened him with a knife and demanded money following a knock at the door by a woman he knew. LEX 18
FINANCE NEWS
- ➤ Monticello Banking Company experienced a cyberattack on Sunday that disrupted ATM and online banking access and caused debit card limits to be set at $500 on Monday before rising to $1,000 on Tuesday. By Wednesday, the bank had restored all services—although customer Rhonda Thomas reported that a $10,000 deposit she made on Monday still was missing despite receiving a call from a bank representative. - ➤ A study from July 1 by KFF shows that rural Kentuckians will face the hardest Medicaid cuts from the Big Beautiful Bill as federal spending in Kentucky will drop over 17% from its 10‐year baseline, leaving more than 130,000 residents without coverage + possibly forcing local hospitals to cut staff and services. - ➤ Friday morning, Lexington held the Bluegrass 10k as part of its Fourth of July celebrations, where runners Micah Hall and Kayla Moon ran together before their wedding on Thursday and many others shared their own stories. Runner Brian Webb, a head injury survivor, ran his final race in his 40s—his birthday is tomorrow—while festivities also included a reading of the Declaration and a downtown parade ahead of the night fireworks.
