ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Lexington fire officials responded early Monday to a gas leak at Oxford Circle Apartments where high levels of carbon monoxide and natural gas led to the death of 62-year-old Samuel Gross and hospital visits for 11 residents, and city officials later condemned the building—staff have helped displaced tenants secure temporary hotel stays. - ➤ A 62 year old man named Samuel Gross (identified by Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn) died when high levels of methane and carbon monoxide were detected at Oxford Circle Apartments just after 4 a.m. Monday, forcing the evacuation of over 30 units and leaving his cause of death under investigation. - ➤ Two men are in custody after police found over 100 fraudulent credit cards near a Leestown Road Kroger store—age 54 Fernando Perez had 37 cards on him and age 52 Sergiu Railean’s vehicle contained 111 cards and over $12,000 in cash, and both face multiple charges while held at the Fayette County Detention Center. - ➤ An 18-year-old suspect, Jesus Eduardo Reyes-Ocampo, has been charged with two counts of murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the deaths of 16-year-old Ali Naqvi and 15-year-old Aoun Basboos, and a second suspect, 47-year-old Jesus Reyes-Rodriguez, faces a tampering charge after police recovered a white Acura ILX on May 15 near Loradale Market — a hearing for Reyes-Ocampo is set for July 23 to decide if he will be tried as an adult. - ➤ Two men—52-year-old Sergiu Railean and 54-year-old Fernando Perez—were arrested Monday after Lexington police said they used fake debit cards at local ATMs and detectives later found over 100 counterfeit cards and cash in a suspect’s vehicle. LEX 18
