COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City officials said that 18 local organizations received $150,000 in grants to combat youth violence in Lexington. Last year's funds helped over 600 young people through programs focused on leadership and crisis care—efforts aimed at keeping the community safe.  LEX 18

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Thursday, the iconic Snack Wrap returned at participating Lexington locations when the first 100 in-store customers received one free—supplies permitting. After breakfast hours, customers could buy the wrap for $2.99 in spicy habanero or classic cool ranch flavors with white meat chicken, lettuce and cheese—marking the fast food chain’s popular menu comeback.  ABC 36

CRIME NEWS

  • A Winchester man, Brian P. Epperson, was charged with murder in Powell County after police linked drug capsules from his truck to an overdose death on May 31—local boyfriend Kaylieb Thompson said his longtime partner Reacheal Dawson went missing on June 27 and is believed to be connected to the investigation.  LEX 18
  • A man was shot overnight and taken to a local hospital at the intersection of Lansdowne Drive and East Reynolds Road—residents who rarely experience gunfire now feel on edge as police continue investigating without a named suspect.  WKYT

  • In the tenth episode of Writing Lessons, host Silas House interviewed acclaimed author—Kentucky poet laureate Crystal Wilkinson. The episode aired on July 10 at 8:30 a.m.  WUKY
  • BreyerFest 2025 celebrates 75 years of Breyer model horses and kicks off today at the Kentucky Horse Park, running through July 13. The festival features over 200 live horses—special guests like Olympic eventer Will Coleman and the Chincoteague Pony Drill Team, family rides, art activities, and a virtual experience for those who cannot attend.  The Lane Report

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Farm Credit Mid-America announced today a renewed 5-year partnership with Black Soil KY through a $250,000 investment to support Black-owned farms statewide. Lexington farmer Jim Coleman said the funding helps his work at Coleman Crest Farm, where his family has farmed since the post-Civil War era — and he plans to expand organic farming and agritourism.  LEX 18

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six Lafayette High School students won first place for architectural design at a national competition in Nashville when they presented a project featuring a Kentucky Cultural Museum—competing against over 8,000 students from 48 states and four countries. The year-long project moved from an idea board to a 3D-printed model that showcased strong teamwork and creative skills.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky will lower its real property tax rate for the fifth year by setting the 2025 rate at 10.6 cents per $100 of assessed home value—down about 3 cents from last year's rate.  FOX 56
