  • A Fayette County jury awarded a 59-year-old man $1.5 million after he was injured in 2021 when a chair collapsed outside a Walmart on Grey Lag Way—he had turned down a $215,000 settlement offer. Lawyers said they combined claims for premises and product liability to hold Walmart and the chair maker responsible for his injuries.  LEX 18

  • Eight days ago, Amie Simpson’s unit at Oxford Circle Apartments was evacuated after emergency crews found dangerous levels of flammable gas and carbon monoxide that killed 63-year-old Samuel Gross—Simpson said she was turned away from relocation help at Harvest Worship Center because she kept a cat.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • Sunday's shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church claimed the lives of Christina Combs, a devoted mother and nursing student, and her mother, Beverly Gumm.  ABC 36
  • On Tuesday, police responded to a quiet home on Darien Drive when neighbors reported unusual activity and found 60-year-old Dean Dalrymple dead after multiple gunshots, and authorities are investigating the suspected homicide while seeking the shooter.  FOX 56

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • House Bill 5 took effect one year ago—known as the Safer Kentucky Act—and advocates say it punishes homeless individuals with 425 unlawful camping charges in 30 counties rather than offering help. Service providers call for alternatives such as permanent supportive housing to address the root causes of homelessness.  ABC 36
