ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Pulaski County firefighters responded to a large structure fire near the 900 block of Colyer Road at Woodson Bend Resort in Bronston on July 16th — the malfunctioning golf cart that was plugged in sparked the blaze, and although only one unit was occupied, everyone inside was uninjured as officials declared the building a total loss. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested 23-year-old Andrew Snell after a 10-mile chase in the Nicholasville woods that began when he pulled a knife during a robbery at a Casey's store, with officers from Nicholasville, Jessamine County and Lexington using drones, a helicopter and a K-9 unit to locate him near Ashgrove Road—he now faces 13 charges including first-degree robbery. - ➤ A survivor of Sunday's shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church remains in the hospital after being shot twice in the face and using a breathing tube—family said Pastor Jerry Gumm is also hospitalized. ABC 36
- ➤ Animal Care & Control responded to a call about horses without water on a Lexington property and found the owner dead and 14 dogs in poor condition, with some horses lacking water. Officers provided water to the horses and moved the dogs to a shelter before police began investigating the owner’s death — the initial call helped save the animals. ABC 36
- ➤ Lexington Police Detective Jody Kizis testified that cell phone records placed suspect Nathaniel Danzy at the scene of the May 28 shooting at Bridle Creek Apartments on Nicholasville Road after witnesses saw a man running and a black Nissan speeding away, and he allegedly confessed to killing his roommate, 25-year-old Zemondric Hall; Danzy remains in custody with a $750,000 bond (pending a grand jury review). - ➤ Thunderstorms have drenched our area with heavy rains that saturated the ground, raising flash flood and damaging wind risks. A slow-moving cold front is stalling today (bringing in deep tropical moisture), and storms are expected to continue into the weekend. WKYT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lexington native Zach Dembo, a Navy veteran and former federal prosecutor, launched his campaign for Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District to lower living costs, protect healthcare, and oppose tariffs — while Dr. Ralph Alvarado, a physician and former state senator, joined the race pledging to secure borders and fight inflation; the crowded primary will be held in May. - ➤ The Kentucky Equal Justice Center in Lexington will close its doors at the end of this month because it lost major funding + it ended 50 years of legal help for low-income residents. Before closing, staff will work to help current clients keep receiving support + make sure cases are not harmed by the shutdown. FOX 56

- ➤ Leaders from across the Commonwealth gathered Wednesday at UK Chandler Hospital to mark the 10th anniversary of the Kentucky Children’s Hospital Division of Pediatric Forensics. Key figures—Attorney General Russell Coleman, State Senator Amanda Mays Bledsoe and hospital officials—celebrated a decade of work to help children, including opening a new clinic made possible by a donation of 2 million dollars from Kosair for Kids.
