Good morning, Lexington. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 21st of July.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Data from the Kentucky Housing Corporation shows unsheltered homelessness dropped 33% in Jessamine County and 18% in Lexington over the past year while it increased 6.4% in Louisville + 25% in rural areas. Leaders credit community efforts and House Bill 5 for pushing individuals into hiding even as statewide unsheltered numbers rose 16.4% since last year.  FOX 56
  • Owner Cynthia Buckner said her Little Red Blessing Food Box on De Porres Avenue helps Lexington residents take what they need without income checks, a need that grew during COVID. With federal SNAP cuts looming, Buckner plans to expand to six to eight boxes around Lexington — including one for Georgetown — and build a large food pantry, while a donation event is scheduled at Whitney Young Park on July 26 from noon to 9:00 p.m.  WKYT
