COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mayor Linda Gorton announced a vigil will be held today at 6:00 p.m. at Courthouse Plaza to honor victims of last week's mass shooting. Officials including Police Chief Lawrence Weathers and County Sheriff Kathy Witt will attend — community members are invited to gather together in support — as the city unites in this time of loss.  WUKY
  • Cynthia Buckner turned her front-yard food box idea into a nonprofit to help fight hunger in Lexington by offering free food and books all day—no paperwork needed. The box on De Porres Avenue was set up around Easter and Buckner plans four more boxes, with the third to be finished in the next two weeks and volunteers collecting donations Saturday at Whitney Young Park during St. Martin’s Village Day.  LEX 18

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dallas-based Nachawati Law Group is working with Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman’s Office on a lawsuit against Temu—a Chinese-owned shopping app accused of collecting personal data, violating privacy laws, and selling counterfeit goods. The state seeks civil penalties of up to $2,000 per violation of the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act along with any additional court relief.  The Lane Report

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy has named Leigh Ann Keeton as clinical assistant professor to launch the new Ashland Clinical Education Center. The center will offer fourth-year students advanced practice experience similar to the Louisville center and was made possible by the acquisition of King's Daughters in 2022—boosting local pharmacy education in Eastern Kentucky.  The Lane Report

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Road crews are resurfacing Main Street between Midland Avenue and Newtown Pike with lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night this week and next, and the project is set to finish on July 31—drivers should plan extra time due to potential delays and weather changes.  FOX 56

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents of Scott County will see a new emergency room and urgent care facility coming fall 2026 at the Town Center at Amerson Orchard (115 Amerson Way), which will be operated by Baptist Health (partnering with Intuitive Health).  FOX 56
