BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kroger will open a new store on Newtown Springs Drive on August 14 with a ribbon cutting at 7:45 a.m. & the store will offer home goods, a drive-thru pharmacy, The Little Clinic, Starbucks, Murray's Cheese Shop, a sushi bar and a Wine & Spirits Shoppe to bring new services and jobs to Lexington.  LEX 18

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said a 15-year-old girl was shot dead on Autumn Road in Elsmere Monday night - local authorities arrested a 15-year-old boy on charges of murder, domestic violence and tampering with evidence as investigators searched for the handgun dropped at an undisclosed location.  WKYT
  • Winchester police ask anyone who has worked with or had a personal relationship with 44-year-old Brian Epperson in the past three years to come forward—he is charged with the murder of Kristen Morris in Powell County, linked to Reachel Dawson’s death in Winchester, and may also be connected to another death in Fayette County from November 2024.  WKYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new documentary titled In Our Nature will premiere at the historic Lyric Theater in Lexington tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. The film follows local environmental education efforts and will use ticket proceeds to benefit Red Oaks Forest School and the Kentucky Association for Environmental Education.  LEX 18

EDUCATION NEWS

  • KCTCS is rolling out its first-ever Mental Health Strategy to support the well-being of more than 110,000 students across 16 colleges—guided by The Jed Foundation, The Healthy Minds Network and the Council on Postsecondary Education.  The Lane Report
  • Seton Catholic School held a head shaving event Tuesday night to support a sixth-grade student fighting lymphoma. The idea began with two friends and spread among staff and students—showing their care for the young student.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A few weeks ago, Lexington council members allocated $1 million to a program with nonprofit Undue Medical Debt—an organization that buys hospital debt cheaply and erases it—to help eligible Fayette County residents clear their costly medical bills. The initiative, aimed at those with incomes at or below 400% of the poverty level or with debt at 5% or more of their income, is expected to assist 32,000 people in eliminating a total of $90 million in debt.  WKYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A lemonade stand outside Kitchen Concepts in Lexington is raising more than $2,000 for Colin's Dream, a campaign to support 14-year-old Colin who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age two and remains active despite being wheelchair bound—his cousins set up the stand after asking where to donate funds.  LEX 18
