CRIME NEWS

  • Former University of Kentucky basketball player Ramel Bradley (40-year-old) was arrested Sunday by Lexington police and charged with resisting arrest, criminal trespassing, marijuana possession, operating a vehicle without a license, and disorderly conduct.  LEX 18

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Four Lexington locals helped when state trooper Jude Remilien— a 3-year veteran— was shot at Bluegrass Airport on July 13 during a mass shooting and saved his life. Governor Beshear honored them with the title Kentucky Colonel for their brave actions.  WUKY
  • LIHEAP has opened applications for families to get help with their electric bills and keep cool this summer — the program will accept walk-ins or appointments until September 12 and serves households in local counties based on income and housing type.  WKYT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Outdoor workers in Lexington face dangerous summer heat, so companies like Rumpke are starting shifts early and using clear safety signs—helping crews stay hydrated and take frequent breaks to protect their health.  WKYT
  • Lexington activated Phase 1 of its heat plan today as dangerous heat and humidity force free LexTran rides to cooling centers—community groups like the HopeMobile are also helping vulnerable residents. Officials urge residents to wear sunscreen, drink water or electrolyte drinks, check vehicles for pets before exiting, and put out garbage cans the night before collection.  FOX 56

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Bluegrass region real estate sales in Lexington increased in the first half of the year (volume rose 8% to over $2.1 billion and June sales climbed 11% to $461 million, setting a record median price of $299,900). Single-family, townhouse, and condo sales along with new construction and pending transactions also gained, strengthening the market for homeowners.  The Lane Report
