CRIME NEWS

  • A Kentucky writer from Corbin interviewed Laurel County residents after London police mistakenly served a search warrant at Doug Harless’s home on Vanzant Road on Dec. 23rd, 2024 — the mistake came when officers went to the wrong address and found Harless armed — and killed him, prompting questions about accountabilities and the department’s suspended body camera use.  LEX 18
  • A Lexington man allegedly raped a woman he met on a Christian dating site using a fake name when he took her to the Super 8 Motel in May—police arrested him on July 29 and charged him with first-degree rape while holding him on a $100,000 cash bond.  FOX 56
  • In Elsmere last week, police said that multiple people may know the location of the missing gun used in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Tristan Smith—who suffered injuries to her arm and chest—while a 15-year-old male was arrested and charged with murder, domestic violence, and tampering with physical evidence.  FOX 56
  • Lexington police continue investigating a 2021 double homicide in which 26-year-old Tyler Sandusky and 27-year-old Shaquille Newby were found dead outside a car on July 4—officials ask anyone with tips to submit them anonymously using the P3 Tips app.  FOX 56

  • Justin Terawood and Kennedy Kruse are hosting the Killer Good Drag Show at Thoroughbred Theatre in Lexington—this event will bring local audiences a night of lively drag performances.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • LG&E and KU reached an agreement with intervening parties and filed a stipulation agreement with the Kentucky Public Service Commission today—this supports plans to add two 645-megawatt natural gas combined-cycle units at Ghent, install a selective catalytic reduction facility in 2028 to lower NO2 emissions, and extend Mill Creek Unit 2’s operation until the new unit is in service. The companies expect the Commission to rule on the request by November—ensuring continued safe and reliable service amid Kentucky's economic growth.  The Lane Report
