ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Lexington firefighters responded to a fire on Patchen Drive on Saturday when the blaze broke out on the second and third floors of a multi-story building—crews extinguished the fire and are checking for hot spots with no injuries reported. LEX 18
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lexington police arrested 69-year-old Deborah Weiss on Saturday morning on Russell Cave Road after officers responded just after 3:20 a.m. on August 2nd and found two men who died at the scene—investigation continues. ABC 36
- ➤ Lexington police said that two men died from gunshot wounds after an overnight shooting on Russell Cave Road near the Northside Branch of the public library, with officers arriving just before 3:30 a.m. on Saturday—investigation is ongoing. WKYT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Families gathered on a mild, sunny Saturday at Back to School Rallies where volunteers distributed 3,500 backpacks with school supplies for students from preK through high school; FCPS (Fayette County Public Schools) staff and local partners also helped parents register for bus routes and navigate Chromebooks. - ➤ Edelen Renewables proposed a solar farm on the 400-acre ex-landfill at Haley Pike that will send power to Kentucky utilities if approved – the work may start by 2027. Lexington Mayor Linda Gordon said this site is a better choice to keep valuable farmland intact. WUKY
