CRIME NEWS

  • Linda Johnson, a dedicated UK fan and loving grandmother, died after her car was hit from behind on Sunday, Aug. 3 on Man o' War Boulevard near Belleau Wood and Clearwater Way — police charged driver Stephen Barber, who has prior DUI offenses, with operating under the influence.  LEX 18
  • Deborah Weiss, 69, is accused of shooting Edward Parker, 52, and Ashim Heanacho, 71, at 3:24 a.m. on Saturday — she entered a not guilty plea Monday in Lexington court — with her bond set at $1 million cash and a preliminary hearing scheduled for next Monday at 8:30 a.m.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentuckians with hearing loss have received weather radios attached with pillow shakers and strobe lights from the Moore Safe Nights program — a joint effort by the Commission for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and Kentucky Emergency Management. The program started in 2024, distributed 600 radios, and will soon process more applications to help hundreds feel safer during extreme weather events.  WKYT
  • The Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources is now accepting applications for fall dove quota hunts that will be held on Sept. 1 and Sept. 6 at Big Rivers WMA and Welch Tract of Kentucky River WMA. The hunts include both regular and mentor/youth events—with online registration for youth hunts from 8 a.m. Aug. 4 until 4:30 p.m. and drawing results posted by Aug. 22—and hunters must check in, carry their printed selection letter, and follow set rules such as no dove decoys until Oct. 1.  FOX 56

  • Ashley Kester from Hometown Lactation shared breastfeeding tips and offered support to local mothers during World Breastfeeding Week—helping families access vital infant feeding information.  WKYT
  • Dr. Steve Lin, a heart failure specialist at Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiology, was honored with an Innovation Award in 2023 for using lung ultrasound to treat congestive heart failure. His approach helps doctors make quick treatment decisions and may lower hospital stays for patients.  The Lane Report
