ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Lexington couple sued a school bus driver, the school board, and insurance companies for over $75,000 after a school bus hit husband Kurt Waechter on April 3 on Liberty Road — leaving him unconscious for more than eight minutes and causing severe injuries while his wife Ashley also suffered a loss of essential support.  LEX 18

  • Ale-8-One Bottling Co. launched its limited-edition Pawpaw Ale-8—made with Kentucky’s only native tropical fruit—at Kentucky State University’s research farm, and the drink hit store shelves today.  The Lane Report

CULTURE NEWS

  • Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation in Lexington got a $600,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation — the biggest gift in its 70-year history — to start a Preservation Center at Hopemont that will help locals preserve historic sites and open by 2027. The grant will also pay for building improvements and two new full-time jobs focused on African American heritage and visitor help.  The Lane Report
  • Molly Tuttle will perform on August 14th at The Burl Outdoors in Lexington as WUKY and The Burl partner to give away six tickets; fans may enter by submitting their email on the sign-up form or buying tickets on The Burl website.  WUKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bellarmine University launched its Dual Credit Institute, a new program that partners with local high schools to offer college-level courses in subjects like theology and biology. The institute builds on 20 years of dual credit instruction and will include an immersive learning experience in Summer 2026—expanding access to career and college readiness for students.  The Lane Report

  • Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton — a former registered nurse — opened the new Community Paramedicine office Tuesday morning to support a growing team that handles overdose, mobile health, and crisis response services. The new building will improve care and help reduce unnecessary trips to local hospitals.  LEX 18
