COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Keeneland has partnered with Stable Recovery to launch a maintenance cohort that gives eight individuals a hands-on job on the track and on-site housing to support skill building and job readiness. The program aims to address the equine labor shortage—officials said it will strengthen local community support.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • Lexington Police charged 30-year-old Keaira Pennie with murder after a man died from a gunshot wound around 11:55 p.m. Sunday on Bryan Station Road—she is held at the Fayette County Detention Center while the coroner’s office will release the victim's name.  ABC 36
  • Lexington Police say a man was shot late Thursday on Bryan Station Road—he is in hospital with life-threatening injuries and police are asking anyone with tips to come forward.  ABC 36

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and the Kentucky Opioid Abatement Advisory Commission awarded $78,000 each to Bellarmine University, Campbellsville University, Morehead State University, University of Kentucky, and Western Kentucky University to fund recovery resource centers that help students recovering from substance use disorders and managing mental health challenges. Each center will offer trauma-informed peer recovery services and academic support and will include workforce readiness programs as part of a project that began on July 1 and runs through June 30 — quarterly reporting will track its impact.  WUKY
