ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Wolfe County Search and Rescue responded to a call at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening for two hikers and their dog suffering from heat exhaustion near the intersection of Swift Camp Creek and Wildcat Trail after the hikers missed a turn on Rock Bridge Trail — a misstep that led them onto a tougher path. The team carried the exhausted dog out of the wilderness and confirmed that all are now safe.  LEX 18

CRIME NEWS

  • A double homicide outside the Lexington Public Library’s Northside Branch took the lives of 71-year-old Ashim Heanacho and 52-year-old Edward Parker—Kimberly said Parker always lifted her spirits.  WKYT

  • Joe Conkwright, a Leo and longtime arts producer, hosts the second half of Rock and Roots on WUKY from noon to 4 p.m. on weekdays—he also curates Joe's Blues, Kentucky's longest consecutively running radio blues program airing today at 7 and Friday nights at 10 on WUKY.  WUKY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At University of Kentucky, 2,000 students moved onto campus Sunday for Big Blue Move-In as UK staff made moving easier by providing a dedicated GPS code through Waze. Many new students said the organized schedule helped ease the stress of settling into their new homes.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Lexington implemented Phase One of their heat plan Saturday — offering free Lextran rides to designated cooling centers as temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid-90s with heat indices near 100 — and warned residents to avoid heavy outdoor work; the plan will remain until Tuesday.  LEX 18
