- ➤ Gatton Park, located behind the Central Bank Center, will open this weekend after ten years of planning and construction, featuring a 12-acre space with a concert stage, two dog parks — and a kid's playground with a water play area. LEX 18
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Russell Coleman sent a letter to Instagram Head Adam Mosseri, along with 37 other attorneys general, asking the company to disable a new location-sharing feature for minors—its controls could let predators find kids. WUKY
- ➤ Dr Seth Carpenter from the Kentucky Geological Survey and UK graduate student Seth Thompson are testing if seismic sensors can track tornado vibrations as recent tests during a May EF4 tornado showed measurable changes, and new sensors will be added in western counties and Fayette — a move meant to help the National Weather Service improve warnings. The research is ongoing as the team collects more data and refines the real-time detection system. WKYT
- ➤ Governor Beshear banned the sale of designer Xanax by classifying bromazolam as a Schedule 1 substance after a request from the state attorney general—law enforcement can now arrest those selling or possessing the drug that was linked to nearly 50 overdose deaths in Kentucky last year. WUKY
- ➤ On Aug. 18, the school board reviewed the Budget Solutions Work Group's recommendations to address a $16 million shortfall and discussed a property tax rate change to 4% so that classrooms are not impacted—public input is set for Sept. 5 with further votes on Sept. 8 and Sept. 22.
