  • The third annual Kenwick Porch Fest takes place today in the Kenwick neighborhood with 37 musicians playing on 18 different porches. Organizers say the free event will feature a mix of musical styles—guests are encouraged to bring cash to tip performers.  WUKY
  • Gatton Park opens today in downtown Lexington after a decade of planning and two years of work. The 12-acre park—built on the old Rupp Arena parking lot—has a big lawn for up to 5,000 people and free concerts that end with a show by Noah Thompson at 8:15 p.m.  WKYT

  • Cavender’s Boot City opened its first Kentucky store at Fayette Mall on Friday and offered a 15,126-square-foot selection of western wear and in-store services (boot fitting and hat shaping) for men, women, and children.  ABC 36

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rise STEM Academy for Girls was named Kentucky’s 2025 Elementary School of the Year by NEED—its Green Team led a cafeteria cleanup and recycling projects aimed at saving resources. Students Fatou Cham and Marley Murray traveled to Washington, D.C. this summer to accept the awards and highlight their energy design work.  Fayette County Public Schools

  • Mayor Linda Gorton appointed Lisa Higgins-Hord to fill the Sixth District council seat after Denise Gray resigned on July 31 to work as an executive for a nonprofit—Higgins-Hord was first appointed in 2020 and will serve until January 4, 2027.  WKYT
