- ➤ Loved ones of Anne Gieske, a University of Kentucky student who died in a crowd surge in Itaewon three years ago in South Korea, are raising money to retrace her steps (marking the three-year anniversary) and attend a memorial on October 29. Her cousin said she hoped to honor the joy Anne found in Korean culture and is seeking community support for the trip. LEX 18
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Kentucky reopened its beloved K Lair dining spot on Monday as hundreds of students lined up to try old favorites like the spicy beef wrap and new items such as smashburgers plus the first 300 customers received a free T-shirt and drink. The spot, which first opened in 1961 and closed in 2019, now offers a popular hangout for students between classes. LEX 18
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Team Kentucky announced a $2 million grant for a public college or university to develop grid solutions that will keep power on during outages caused by storms or floods — the grant aims to boost energy efficiency and lower costs. A public webinar is scheduled for September 4th and applications will open on September 15th with submissions due by October 31st at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time. The Lane Report

- ➤ Thousands of students began classes at UK on Monday, and psychiatrist Dr. Stone said college freshmen face tough changes when they try to get used to new routines — from sleep patterns to new foods.
