  • A man who was fishing was found in a Lexington pond last Saturday night and taken to the hospital in critical condition—fire crews responded to a call from the 500 block of Laketower Drive just before 8 p.m. and found him already out of the water.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested Justin Dean on Friday after he allegedly broke into his brother’s home and stabbed him in the testicles with scissors at 2 a.m. on August 3—officers said a struggle ensued that led to charges of burglary, strangulation, and assault.  WKYT

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Kroger Field, University of Kentucky fans held the season's first tailgate where they cooked out, set up elaborate grilling stations, and shared stories in a festive atmosphere — excitement for the game and season was clear among the crowd.  LEX 18
  • Kentucky beat Toledo by a score of 24 to 16 in their season opener as transfer running back Dante Dowdell rushed for 129 yards and scored a 79 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter—helping the Wildcats secure their fifth straight season-opening win. Quarterback Zack Calzada, also a transfer, threw for 85 yards and ran for a touchdown in the first quarter.  WUKY
