ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An accident occurred late Wednesday morning—at the intersection of Leestown Road and Westhampton Drive—when a motorcycle and a van collided and one person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  WKYT

CRIME NEWS

  • UK running back Jamarion Wilcox appeared in court on domestic violence charges and faces an order that bars him from coming within 500 feet of the alleged victim (he is suspended from the team and a hearing is set for November 3 at 9 a.m.).  ABC 36
  • Steven Smith was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Wednesday after a July jury found him guilty of the 2022 murder of Clarence Adams—who lived with him on Devonia Drive.  WKYT
  • The Fayette County Coroner said that the cause of death was not clear for an infant boy found dead in a closet on Park Avenue last week and that 21-year-old Laken Snelling — a UK student and the baby's mother — faces charges for abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth after pleading not guilty and being released on bond.  WKYT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lexington will host the 36th Annual Roots and Heritage Festival starting Friday— a three-day event that celebrates African American culture and community with food, music and youth activities, ending on September 7. Organizers invite residents to share ideas and help grow the festival.  WKYT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Kentucky American Water will spend $4.8 million to replace old water mains on Lexington streets, including South Upper St. and High St.—new ductile iron pipes will be installed and fire hydrants, valves, meters, and service lines will also be updated. Contractor crews will work Monday through Friday with South Upper St. repairs from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and repairs on other roads from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.—drivers and pedestrians should use extra care in work zones.  The Lane Report

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lexington father Jim Crouch will receive a kidney transplant from his daughter Megan on September 30 because he faces a long wait for a donor and this will be his second transplant after his first over 30 years ago. Megan, a fourth-grade teacher at Cardinal Valley, said she is grateful to help her dad and will take a few weeks off after the surgery—her donation offers renewed hope for the family.  ABC 36
