- ➤ Lexington’s Roots & Heritage Festival begins today and runs through Sunday — celebrating African American culture with live music on Elm Tree Lane, food vendors, and a multi-block parade. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kentucky Educational Television announced Thursday that it eliminated 36 positions—cutting 22% of its staff because federal funding was lost. The broadcaster said it began holding positions vacant and implementing cost-saving measures to manage the budget cuts. WKYT
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State leaders reported that overdose deaths declined for three years with a 30.2% drop in 2024, which gives hope for continued progress. Gov. Beshear also announced that six more counties (Boyd, Carter, Clay, Greenup, Letcher, and Owsley) are now certified as Recovery Ready Communities, raising the total to 31. WUKY
- ➤ In September, the local nonprofit Brothers Run will hold a run to honor loved ones lost to suicide and raise awareness for mental health programs—an event started by Angela Wiese after the loss of her sons Mason and Ethan and her niece Myra.
