CRIME NEWS

  • Lexington Police Department issued a Golden Alert for a missing 72-year-old woman with Alzheimer’s—she was last seen on September 8 at 1 p.m. in the 500 block of East 6th Street walking on foot while wearing a blue UK windbreaker and black pants.  WKYT
  • Animal Care and Control officials said one-week-old puppies were abandoned in a box outside an apartment complex in Lexington on Saturday and that investigators are seeking public tips to identify the suspect — potential criminal charges could follow.  ABC 36

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fayette County Public Schools held its planning meeting Monday night to review a proposed $690.7 million budget and a $27 million contingency fund—community members raised concerns over a reported $16 million shortfall and have called for a third-party forensic audit, with the board set to vote on the updated budget later this month.  ABC 36
  • Josephine Frimpong, a freshman at Frederick Douglass High School and former Hayes student, won first place in the national SIFMA Foundation InvestWrite contest—earning top honors for her essay on smart investing. She was honored on Aug. 28 with teacher Ashlee VanHoose at an awards ceremony.  Fayette County Public Schools
  • Paul Laurence Dunbar junior Tejas Basneth was chosen as the only Fayette representative among twelve high school students selected from nearly 60 applicants for the 2025-26 Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council—he will meet regularly with Commissioner Robbie Fletcher to discuss how state education decisions affect students.  Fayette County Public Schools

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the Our Healthy Kentucky Home program is working to beat obesity since surveys show that 38% of Kentuckians are obese, and Health Secretary Steven Stack said on Sept. 4 that eating healthy and moving more can lower weight problems—part of a year-long plan to improve health.  The Lane Report
