  • A Jessamine County food pantry—facing declining funding—is calling for donations and volunteers as it serves about 400 people a month amid rising food insecurity. The pantry has operated on Second Street for 15 years and expects even more need for its services during the holiday season.  LEX 18
  • A Nicholasville nonprofit that cares for neglected horses rescued two foals in critical condition—calls from Animal Control increased when their mothers were too malnourished to nurse them. Heavensent Nursing Mares stepped in as surrogate mothers to help the foals recover before they are weaned at six months.  LEX 18

  • Mary-Alicha Weldon has been promoted to lead the Commercial Banking Division for Kentucky and Southern Indiana at Fifth Third Bank—she brings over 30 years of experience and a record of supporting middle market companies.  The Lane Report

  • State Auditor Allison Ball revealed new details in her audit of Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) and WKYT reported that officials are reviewing the findings to decide on any necessary changes.  WKYT

  • Kentucky’s Office of Homeland Security met with leaders at Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington to plan ways to make houses of worship safer—this meeting follows a recent shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church and will review tips like having a greeter and training for emergencies.  WKYT
  • Devine Carama, director of ONE Lexington, is offering free speaking engagements, mentorship and workshops for Fayette County Public Schools students and families this year to help fight youth gun violence—he posted his offer on Facebook to support schools facing tight budgets.  WKYT
  • Kentucky Treasurer Mark Metcalf reported that over $40 million in unclaimed property waits for Fayette County residents who visit treasury.ky.gov — funds coming from dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance policies, utility deposits, stocks, and safe deposit boxes — so they can reclaim what is theirs. Since taking office in 2024, his team has already returned a record $65 million to Kentuckians.  ABC 36

HEALTH NEWS

  • Head and neck cancers affect the mouth, throat, voice box and neck and are rising in Kentucky, where rates are higher than in most states. Doctors advise that avoiding tobacco, limiting alcohol, getting the HPV vaccine and regular oral checkups can lower risk—early detection remains crucial.  The Lane Report
  • The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will spray for mosquitoes tomorrow morning in zip codes (40505, 40502) after a resident was found with West Nile Virus. The spray, which only affects adult mosquitoes, will run from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. if weather conditions including temperatures above 55 degrees, no rain or dense fog, and wind speeds below 10 mph are met.  LEX 18
